You do the right thing by trying out several styles / dojos. This way you find what works best for you. I did not know that Uechi-Ryu had ground grappling. The sparring is probably more harmless than the body hardening, unless they aim to knock each other out which I am not a fan of in Karate. Goju-Ryu provides a good balance.
